Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is used to help treat the symptoms of menopause, perimenopause, and post-menopause. The major benefit of HRT is the improved quality of life and the relief of most if not all menopausal symptoms. Your mood, feeling of well-being and your satisfaction with yourself in all aspects of your life are important.
Treatment with bio identical hormones usually includes creating a unique cocktail of hormones for the individual patient, based on hormone deficiencies identified via blood samples. These are often referred to as "custom-compounded" hormone products. The major benefit of this type of treatment is that doses are individualized, and the mixture of products is prescribed specifically for you by Dr. Ali.
Bio identical hormones, sometimes referred to as natural hormones, are those that are molecularly identical to the hormones that are produced in the body. Hormones and steroids are taken from plants and are altered to a state of identical molecular structure, then put into a form that can be taken by the patient.
Pre-Treatment
You will need to have your blood drawn 2 weeks before your initial consultation with Dr. Ali. Dr. Ali will review your labs with you at time of your consultation. Initial blood draw must be done fasting-nothing to eat or drink (water is ok) for 12 hours.
Day of Consultation
Dr. Ali will take an in depth medical history to help her assess your needs. After reviewing your blood work Dr. Ali can see what hormones need to be adjusted. Once Dr. Ali has written your prescription your new specialized hormone cream will be mailed directly to your home.
After Care
After your initial consultation you will come back in after being on your new prescription for 3-4 weeks. New blood must be drawn to ensure the hormone levels are working for you. If any adjustments need to be made Dr. Ali will be able to tell from your blood work. You may or may not need to be fasting for your second blood draw but you must not have used your prescription 12 hours before your blood draw to ensure accurate results. Once you and Dr. Ali are happy with your hormone levels then you only have to come in twice a year to maintain your prescription.
