Medical massage uses a combination of different modalities and techniques to help alleviate pain or discomfort. This type of massage is specific to each patient’s area of concern and is designed to be therapeutic, corrective and restorative. Medical massage can be used to promote and assist the body in its natural healing process. Medical massage is one of the most effective and simple tools for reaching rapid and sustained results in various disorders including:
- Sciatic nerve neuralgia
- Hypertension
- Impingement syndromes
- Lower back disorders
Q. What is medical massage?
A. Medical massage is a comprehensive method of soft tissue mobilization consisting of connective tissue massage (fascia mobilization), muscular mobilization, trigger point therapy (if trigger points exist) and other components.
Q. How does medical massage work?
A. The techniques used in medical massage help to palpate and detect abnormalities in the skin, fascia, and muscles. It focuses on the elimination of tension in fascia and muscles. The elimination of these abnormalities leads to reduction of pain and release on nerve impingements.
Q. What should I expect?
A. You will have an interview with your therapist so that she can personalize a session for you. Heat will be applied to your area of concern to help relax and release your muscle tension. When you have your session you will experience a massage treatment that is slow and concentrated on your area of concern however, your whole body will be massaged to further enhance the benefits of your massage.
Q. What should I wear?
A. You will be asked to undress to your level of comfort and to lie underneath a sheet. Only the area that is being massaged will be exposed. Once that area is done it will be covered with the sheet and the next area will be exposed and treated.
We encourage you to drink plenty of water after your massage to help your body flush the toxins and lactic acid released during your massage; this will also help prevent soreness.
You can experience a 50 min or 80 min treatment session.
