Most patients only require 1 treatment appointment to achieve optimal results. Botox® treatments are recommended once every 3 or 4 months.

Beware of anyone offering Botox® regularly for less than what you usually see in the area. Many providers offering Botox® might be highly discounted because they import their product at a discount from outside the United States, making the product being used just as real as a “designer” bag but it is fake. Remember, when you are injecting a substance into your body, it is not something to bargain hunt.

In the days leading up to your Botox® injection, it’s best to follow a couple of simple steps. These will help to improve the results and minimize potential side effects. Here’s what to do in the week before Botox® injections:

  • Avoid Aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 2 to 3 days before the procedure.

To best prepare yourself, follow these steps on the day of your treatment:

  • Avoid applying makeup in the area of injection.
  • Stay calm.

Aftercare instructions post-Botox®:

  • Exercise the muscles around the treated areas like smiling, frowning, raising your eyebrows, clenching your jaws, etc.
  • Avoid lying down for at least 5 - 6 hours after receiving the injections.
  • Avoid strenuous activity immediately following treatment.
  • You can gently apply a cold gel pack (available if needed) to reduce bruising.
  • Avoid touching or rubbing in the area treated by Botox®.

Bruising and swelling are to be expected with possible swollen spots from the needle injection sites. Botox® can take up to 2 weeks to fully work; however, you may start to notice the effect as soon as 3 days.

Botox® gained the United States government’s FDA approval in 1989 for the treatment of eyelid spasms. In 2002, Botox® gained its official FDA approval for the treatment of glabellar wrinkles also known as “frown lines” or the “11 lines.”

Botox® has historically been used in cosmetic and non-cosmetic cases such as in hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), treating bruxism (involuntary grinding of the teeth), reshaping jawline by making it more oval-shaped, reducing chin dimpling or “peau d’orange," reducing the appearance of bands on the neck, treatment of marionette lines, lifting corners of the mouth, addressing bunny lines and crow’s feet, and to smooth lines on the outer corner of the eye or “crow's feet.”

Absolutely. Dr. Dima is an artist when it comes to injectables and knows exactly how to give someone the look they desire. Above is an example of an unhappy patient who had treatment elsewhere and was not happy with the results. The Botox® gave him a very arched eyebrow and had Dr. Dima correct it by giving him a more relaxed look as shown in the photo.
