Bellafill: The Long-Lasting Filler

Reston Virginia Dermatology Medical Spa & Wellness Center

Bellafill (formerly known as Artefill) is an injectable wrinkle filler that provides long lasting wrinkle correction. The body absorbs other fillers and requires frequent repeat injections to maintain the results. Bellafill's unique microsphere are not absorbed by the body and provide the support your skin needs for normal, long lasting result.

It replaces lost volume in the skin below the wrinkle for results that are immediate and lasting. In consumer surveys, Bellafill scored extremely high for patient satisfaction. Also in 2013, there were more than 2.2 million injectable filler procedures, which makes it the second most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure, and the fastest growing.

What makes Bellafill work?

Bellafill is use in two ways. The first is that collagen provides immediate volume below facial wrinkles known as smile lines to lift them to the level of surrounding skin. The second way is PMMA microspheres create a matrix that supports your body’s own collagen production. Bellafill is made up of 80% purified collagen and 20% PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres. These microspheres are extremely small, and are not visible to the eye. So, adding volume of collagen reduces the wrinkles. Thus, your skin looks healthy and smooth.

Is it safe?

It is FDA approved since 2006 requiring a skin test to identify patients why may be allergic to the licocaine or collagen in Bellafill. Bellafill had the largest and longest dermal filler study ever conducted, and was actually proven safe through 5 years for the correction of nasolabial folds or smile lines.

How long does it last?

Bellafill® is different. It restores rather than just fills for natural enduring results. In a pivotal clinical study on nasolabial folds correction, effectiveness was observed out to 12 months (primary effectiveness endpoint was at 6 months.) In a 5-Year post-approval study, 83% of patients were satisfied to very satisfied at the end of 5 years; this makes bellafill one of the top injectable that last this long.

Can Bellafill be used for acne scarring?

Yes. In fact it is one of the best injectables to use when it comes to acne scarring because Bellafill is more long-lasting than other fillers. A lot of the times acne tends to leave scars which last very long time. But Bellafill is also the first, and only, FDA-approved injectable filler to specifically treat acne scars. It is also helpful for severe atrophic scars on the cheeks. Bellafill® uses a combination of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres and bovine collagen gel to immediately reduce the look of scars and create a lasting improvement.

Bellafill also works great for smile lines. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, which often dissolve within a few months, Bellafill® creates a lasting improvement in your skin. That is one of the reason that Dr. Dima recommends her patients it, as it returns good value for the money spent overall.
