Juvederm Injections

Reston Virginia Dermatology Medical Spa & Wellness Center

Juvéderm injectable gel is a “next-generation” dermal filler. The smooth consistency gel helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvéderm injectable gel provides a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know)!

What is Juvederm?

Juvéderm injectable gel is a non surgical, physician-administered treatment. Dr. Ali eases Juvéderm under the skin using a fine needle to augment, or fill, the soft tissue of the dermis—the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis—to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm injectable gel is used most effectively for those wrinkles and folds in the lower third of your face, like your "laugh lines," "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds), or "marionette lines" (oral commissures).

How does Juvederm work?

Juvéderm is a is made from hyaluronic acid —a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to hydrate and add volume. Hyaluronic acid may diminish with age, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm injectable gel works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to smooth wrinkles and folds.

Is treatment with Juvéderm painful?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. Juvéderm's smooth consistency gel allows Dr. Ali to administer it easily and smoothly. And, Juvéderm is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Dr. Ali uses local anesthesia to further minimize discomfort.

What should I do prior to treatment?

Juvederm requires no pretesting, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with Dr. Ali, she can prescribe medication to minimize a recurrence.

What are the possible side effects of Juvéderm injectable gel?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection.

How long do results last?

Juvéderm’s unique formulation provides results that last up to 6 months or longer.
